About Me 🇰🇷🇦🇺
My Korean name is 이성민/Sungmin Lee, but I grew up using Sam Lee for its simpler pronunciation. When I decided what my mission as a filmmaker was, I added my Korean name to make it Sam Sungmin Lee. My English and Korean names side-by-side represent my voice as a multi-cultural and bi-lingual filmmaker. I have written and directed film in both the English and Korean languages, while also previously having conducted research on ‘The Challenges of Making a Korean Short Film as a Korean-Australian Filmmaker’ during my Honours directing degree at the Victorian College of the Arts, where I graduated with First Class Honours. Read my published paper on Academia. Why is my mission to ‘challenge viewers across the world through messages and themes that are universally relevant’? I have found the most comforting films to be about characters and emotions that anyone of any age, race, gender can relate to. Thus, I crave to learn about the different cultures across the world to help me craft stories that everyone can connect with. Melbourne where I reside, has a wide diversity of ethnicities, and provides endless opportunities to meet various cultures. My aim is to widen my understanding of people to help you rediscover something about yourself in my films. |
